Seriotia - Variability

Submitted by Nayita on

This variety is variable in certain ways. Color is variable, some plants have purple and others do not, and then won't get it at any stage. While other green plants get their purple or reddish colors late in the flower cycle. There is no way to tell how any plant will 'behave'. You just need to wait and experience it. Other variables are for example the structure of flowers and buds. Pistils also show a wide variation in form and size.

But all plants do have a more or less similar structure and have similar leaf shapes. Within a grow room with different seed plants you can still recognize which are the Serioticas.

The thing is that differences are not linked together to form different phenos. The whole pheno thing is usually poorly understood by people. Many see every plant as its own pheno. But that's not how it works. You should be able to give a description of a certain pheno.

For example (this is not true however, just a fantasy example) "the purple pheno is purple and will always smell like cookies. The green pheno stays green and smells always like lemon." In this example color and smell are linked and therefore you can describe different phenos.

But if all characteristics mix with each other you cannot distuingish certain phenos. This is the case with Seriotica and therefore all variation falls within the same pheno type. This one pheno type just can exhibit a lot of variation.

Enjoy the plants you have, all are unique individuals. Because of the differences between the plants it is very pleasurable to try to choose which you like the best. The terps also vary quite a bit between them.

And finally there's also some difference in flower time. Most are ready around 7 weeks. But some are 6 weeks and some are 8, while a few need more time than that. But they can all be harvested safely at 8 weeks. If you however have the space and time, it may be worth while to let the odd individual flower till the end. This can certainly be 9 weeks.

Although the flower time varies you will notice that the size of the buds, and the total yield too, is linked to flower time. The longer flowering plants have the biggest buds. This is only because they had more time to size up.

This variation is one of the attractive features of this cultivar. At least thats how I look upon it. While all Serioticas vary, all plants are worth while. The variation is within limits and all are clearly Serioticas.
