On Kali Mist

This is a text referring to the old Kali Mist (many myths and stories go around on internet about this early version) compared to the 'new' Kali Mist: seeds produced after the year 2000.

If you want to grow Kali Mist again after many years: I hope you will get the same result as you remember. But if I may: I'd like to give you a little advice in advance. Memories tend to change over time to become larger than life. But people don't realize this, they assume that their memories are solid, engraved in rock. So if their experience after 20 years seems less great and sparkly compared to their vivid memory, than it's obvious that the plants must have changed!!

This is thé most important reason for the myths that 'plants have lost their greatness' when people smoke the same variety again after 20 or 30 years.

They overlook the fact that their experience may have been one of the first times smoking as an inexperienced young person. In that time the weed was clearly much less strong than nowadays. 20 years later their experience with a wide selection of plants has grown a lot, newer plants have become stronger, higher THC levels etc. The person you are 20 years later is therefor a different person, but people have a hard time realizing this. Do not fall into that self-set mind trap.

I know this because I experienced the same once when visiting similar places, meeting the same people again after many years. I smoked again the same (Malawi-)plants of which I had such great memories. To my huge surprise it was different, or so I thought. But not according to the people I was smoking with, again, after so many years. They had been living there since always, and had been smoking the same plants since always. They assured me the plants and the weed hadn't changed, it was just like it always has been. Then I realized that it was me who had changed: a huge learning experience.

We get this question often: 'Do you still have seeds of the old Kali Mist because people say it was better than the present day Kali?'

No, we have no old seeds left of the first generation Kali Mist. Therefore the want or need to get some of these old Kali Mist seeds forms a self enhancing expectancy, which steadily grows stronger over time. Especially because nobody can grow those old seeds anymore: they are extinct. The longer ago it was, the better the myth. The memories, the stories about it makes the myth grow bigger and better. I know that the Kali Mist which has been sold since the late 90's is at least as good, but probably better, than the first generation Kali Mist: it also has won the most awards by far.

But then again: I'm only the creator of Kali Mist, so what do I know about it, right? Not sure if my words have any weight in this matter. It may be better to follow the opinions of people which memories go back 20 or 30 years. After all: they are 100% sure that their memories are solid.

In their mind that means that I must be lying for whatever reason. Their reasoning goes as follows: probably I must have lost the 'true genetics' because it cannot be so that their memories play tricks on them: impossible! They were there, they remember. And this opinion gets spread on internet as the truth: their truth that is. I present a different truth.

So dear reader, you decide for yourself whom or which stories you want to follow, I merely gave you my opinion on this matter. Choosing is up to you.

I will tell you another story about Kali Mist which also really happened. In Argentina the producer of the magazine 'THC Argentina' had a fantastic clone of Super Lemon Haze. With weed from this clone he won all local competitions. Finally there was a competition of the whole country. He entered his best weed from that same clone. He placed 2nd. The first place was for Kali Mist grown from the latest version of Kali Mist seeds, produced after the year 2000.

Ok then, yet another story. In Italy, Bologna, there was a competition in which the people could vote for what they thought was the best sativa seed. Kali Mist was chosen to get 1st place. This also was in the 21st century, from Kali Mist seeds produced after the year 2000.

These are facts. Now you choose if you prefer to believe the facts, or rather the myths, fairy tales, rumors and hear-say going around on the internet.

And finally let me ask you something; have you ever grown the present seeds of 'Kali Mist'? If yes; what did you think? If no: shame on you!

If you want to read more about this wonderful variety from somebody else outside Serious Seeds, then below is a link to an article from a grower/journalist who actually grew Kali Mist several times. I think he did quite a good job trying to get as much info as he possibly could. Next to growing it for himself to get first hand experience before writing an article about Kali Mist.
