Q: Can I SCROG Strawberry AK, Serious Kush and Seriotica?

By: Simon

Answer: Let's look at those 3 strains to understand scrogging: Strawberry AK, Serious Kush and Seriotica. The best of those 3 to scrog is Strawberry AK. The Serious Kush is not very suited for scrog. I have not heard yet from people who scrogged Seriotica, but I assume it could be done.

We never scrog ourselves as there is no need to. It costs extra veg. time and the reason to scrog is when you want a small number of plants to fill up a whole tent or grow space. The bigger the grow space the more need there can be to scrog.

Scrogging works best with plants that have long internodes. That means that true indicas are not suitable for it. We do not have true indicas on our Serious menu. The Serious Kush has the most indica features and is therefore less suited to scrog compared to our other strains. The branches of Serious Kush also break much quicker than those of other strains (an indica characteristic.)

This brittleness of indica-branches makes scrogging much harder to do with 'indica' type plants. The easiest for scrogging are strains which are mostly sativa.

Different from scrogging is clipping. May be interesting for you to consider. When you clip (cut) the main stem right above the third real knot then this results in six big buds on each plant. After every cut you always must give the plants at least like 4 days of extra veg. time to recuperate. Clipping takes less amount of extra veg. time compared to scrogging because you cut just once. When you have 3 plants in pots which have been clipped then you fill up one square metre very nicely. This can be done with Serious Kush also. Not scrogging, but clipping works great.

So scrogging is a technique to use when you have a big grow space and you do not want to use more than 3 plants in pots for example. Only then is it worthwhile, in my opinion, spending the extra time and energy to cut plants and bind them to a trellis.
